Edgar (Dermot Mulroney) is een kunstenaar die in Parijs tijdens de jaren '20 leeft. Hij gelooft dat het geslacht een onderwerp van essentieel belang is, maar bijna niemand bespreekt het met de ernst die het verdient. Daarom brengt Edgar een boel mede creatieve types bijeen bij het huis van een rijke ( Nolte) en zijn vreemd genoeg geaccentueerde echtgenote voor een avond waarin zij hun erotisch leven zullen bespreken zonder verstand of overdrijving.
