Nouadhibou is een klein vissersdorpje, dat vasthangt aan een schiereiland aan de Mauretaanse kust. Abdallah, een jonge Malinees van 17 jaar, komt er terecht op zijn doortocht naar Europa en vindt er zijn moeder terug. Op deze afgelegen plaats en vol stille hoop, probeert de jongen die de taal niet machtig is, de wereld rondom zich te begrijpen.
