Miljarden mensen zijn gestorven nadat ze een mysterieus zombievirus opliepen. Vele anderen zijn getransformeerd in bloeddorstige zombies. Een speciaal team, dat onder leiding staat van Kyle Walker, begeeft zich naar Terminal City, de stad waar de uitbraak oorspronkelijk plaatsvond. Ze gaan er op zoek naar een groepje wetenschappers dat mogelijk een tegengif gevonden heeft. Onderweg vechten zij tegen de zombies.
