Verscheidene generaties lang leefde de familie Park in een rustig heuvelgebied, waar Katelyns grootvader en vader vuurtorenwachter waren. Op 10-jarige leeftijd werd de moeder van Katelyn zwaar mishandeld en dodelijk gewond achtergelaten in de kelder van de vuurtoren. Haar vader Christopher werd veroordeeld voor dit misdrijf en Katelyn werd in een pleeggezin geplaatst buiten het dorp. Christopher is door de moord gek geworden en in een psychiatrische inrichting geplaatst, waar hij later overleed. Katelyn heeft nooit de kans gehad om met haar vader te praten na die verschrikkelijke nacht. Twintig jaar later ontvangt ze een mysterieuze brief welke haar terug naar de vuurtoren brengt. Een plaats waarvan ze gezworen had er nooit meer heen te gaan.
