Als Chili Palmer (John Travolta) besluit zijn geluk te beproeven in de muziekindustrie papt hij daarvoor aan met de verleidelijke weduwe (Uma Thurman) van een onlangs vermoorde platenbaas. Hij kaapt de mooie zangeres Linda Moon weg bij de concurrent en ontdekt dat er achter de mooie schermen van de muziekwereld heel wat valse noten geblazen worden.
