Niila en Matti groeien in de jaren '60 op in het Noord-Zweedse dorpje Vittula. Het eentonige leven wordt gedomineerd door oude gebruiken en het strenge geloof. Als ze een plaat van de Beatles horen dromen ze van een eigen muziekcarrière. Maar, muziek wordt in Vittula in de ban gedaan.
