De film vertelt een liefdesverhaal dat zich ontwikkelt van 2001 tot en met 2017. In het armoedige Datong wordt de jonge danseres Qiao verliefd op de gangster Bin. Tijdens een gevecht tussen rivaliserende bendes vuurt Qiao een schot af ter bescherming van Bin, maar wordt hierdoor veroordeeld tot een celstraf van vijf jaar.
