Secretaresse Lorry Jones (Betty Grable) is wel het meest begeerde object in de militaire kantine in Missouri. Zij is "verloofd" met vrijwel elke monteur voor wie zij haar foto heeft gesigneerd. Maar nu vertrekt zij, in dienst van de overheid, naar New York waar zij de Amerikaanse legertroepen mag entertainen. Daar ontmoet zij haar ware liefde in de vorm van oorlogsheld Tommy Dooley (John Harvey).
