Ali is een zangeres met een grote stem uit een kleine stad die vlucht voor ontbering en een onzekere toekomst om haar dromen waar te maken in Los Angeles. Ze belandt in The Burlesque Lounge, een majestueus maar in verval geraakt theater waar een bezield muzikaal gezelschap onderdak heeft. Tess, eigenares van de club en tevens ook de hoofdact, geeft Ali een baantje als serveerster
