Nadat haar loser vriend haar in de steek heeft gelaten, bereikt Erins liefdesleven een dieptepunt wanneer haar dominante moeder namens haar een gênante advertentie in de rubriek 'contacten' van een lokale krant plaatst. Erins afkeer slaat om in nieuwsgierigheid terwijl ze in een hilarische reeks rampzalige dates op zoek gaat naar de juiste man. Ondertussen zoekt een eenzame ex-loodgieter genaamd Alan onhandig naar zijn droombaan en mist hij ternauwernood de ene na de andere kans om Erin te ontmoeten.
