De bewoners van het nietige vissersdorpje St. Marie-La-Mauderne wordt een nieuwe fabriek in de buurt beloofd, en die is hard nodig. Een voorwaarde hiervoor is dat er een arts komt die zich fulltime zal vestigen in het plaatsje. De bewoners verzinnen een plan waarmee ze Dr. Christopher Lewis over kunnen halen een van hun dorpelingen te worden.
