Moeder en dochter zitten opgesloten in een donker bos. Ze worden gemarteld door een krijsend wezen, niet menselijk of dierlijk. De relatie tussen moeder en dochter staat onder grote druk. De 10-jarige Lizzy heeft al het vertrouwen in haar moeder Kathy verloren maar probeert kalm en dapper te blijven. Kathy houdt het nauwelijks nog vol maar weet dat alleen de beschermende liefde van een moeder, haar meest primaire instinct, haar dochter kan redden van het wezen dat loert in de duisternis.
