Terwijl in Duitsland de 30-jarige oorlog woedt; heerst in het Brits koninkrijk onderdrukking, wanbeleid en corruptie. Als edelman Oliver Cromwell hier zelf het slachtoffer van wordt, besluit hij te gaan vechten voor zijn rechten. Hij wordt de grootste tegenstander van de koning en dat heeft een burgeroorlog tot gevolg. Cromwell, de man die met het bloed van de koning geschiedenis schreef.
