Het verhaal van deze film bestaat uit episodes uit het leven in Moskou en op het platteland. Het begin, waarin drie personages elkaar toevallig ontmoeten in een anonieme bar, zet de toon voor de rest van de film. Maar spreken ze ook de waarheid? De kijker tast in het duister.
