2 journalisten van een tabloid uit Chicago worden samen met een 'engel-expert' gevraagd om naar Iowa te reizen, waar een vrouw claimt haar huis te delen met een engel genaamd Michael. Ze ontdekken dat ze de waarheid spreekt, maar Michael is niet zoals ze verwachtten: hij rookt, drinkt en heeft een kleurrijk vocabulaire. Ze zouden nooit geloven dat hij een engel is, ware het niet voor de 2 vleugels die vastzitten aan z'n rug. Michael stemt toe om met het drietal naar Chicago te reizen, en de reis zal hun levens voorgoed veranderen.
