Zomer 1969 in New York City. Tijd van de Vietnamoorlog en de maanlanding. Tijd van flowerpower en vrije liefde. Maar homoseksualiteit is nog steeds een misdaad in de Verenigde Staten. Matty Dean komt voor het eerst naar de stad. Hij belandt in de 'Stonewall Inn', geen homobar, maar een plek waar veel dragqueens en homo's elkaar ontmoeten zonder bang te hoeven zijn dat ze door de politie in elkaar worden geslagen. Matty ontmoet La Miranda, een Puerto Ricaanse dragqueen, en de jonge Ethan, die betrokken is bij een homorechtengroep. Matty beseft al snel dat de strijd voor homorechten niet gevoerd kan worden met de onschuldige en passieve demonstraties van Ethan, maar dat deze strijd ergens anders moet plaatsvinden.
Nee, helaas is Stonewall nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
