Het verhaal speelt zich af in New York waar een jongetje goed bevriend raakt met de geestelijk gehandicapte concierge van zijn school. Na 30 jaar besluit hij de mensen op te zoeken die hem maakten tot wie hij nu is, waaronder zijn "oude" concierge.
