Owen is een hopeloze romanticus, maar dan ook echt hopeloos. Als zijn beeldschone vriendin Chloe naar Hollywood verhuist om in een tv-serie te spelen, reist hij haar achterna. Daar treft hij Chloe naakt aan in de trailer van Rodger, haar grootgeschapen tegenspeler. Moedeloos keert Owen terug naar New York, waar hij slappe stukjes schrijft voor een tijdschrift. Hij baalt ongelofelijk en weet elke vrouw die hij in New York tegenkomt depressief te krijgen. Owen wentelt zich in zelfmedelijden en zijn eigenwaarde zakt naar een dieptepunt, maar er staan hem nog ergere dingen te wachten...
