De melancholische Roderick Usher woont samen met zijn zus Madeleine en hun butler als enige erfgenamen van de familie Usher in een groot vervallen landhuis. Roderick is overgevoelig voor elk fysiek contact, zo erg zelfs dat elke voetstap die hij zet, zijn oren doet suizen.
