De jonge schrijver William Shakespeare heeft problemen met zijn laatste werk "Romeo en Ethal de Piratendochter". De jonge en rijke Viola is een groot fan van Shakespeare, en droomt ervan om actrice te worden. Vrouwen zijn echter niet toegestaan op het toneel, dus verkleedt ze zich als jongen, en krijgt ze de rol van Romeo. Wanneer zij en William verliefd worden heeft hij eindelijk de inspiratie om zijn toneelstuk verder uit te werken.
Nee, helaas is Shakespeare in Love nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
