De snelle zakenman Jon Aldrich vertrekt hals over kop naar Florida als het huis van zijn ouders door toedoen van zijn dementerende ouwe vader is veranderd in een rokende puinhoop. Hij besluit de oudjes bij hem en zijn gezin in huis te nemen, maar het seniele gedrag van vaderlief zorgt al gauw voor merkwaardige taferelen en chaotische toestanden in huize Aldrich.
