Plot

Socialite Valerie 'Val' Parks krijgt te horen dat ze pas in aanmerking komt om haar trustfonds op te eisen als ze haar verantwoordelijkheid kan aantonen. Als reactie hierop besluit ze zich bij het Women's Army Corps, het zogeheten WAC, aan te sluiten om te laten zien dat ze een volwassen jonge vrouw is. Op weg naar het trainingskamp in Des Moines, Iowa, ontmoet ze Ann Darrison, een huisvrouw die ervoor koos om dienst te nemen bij de WAC nadat haar man in het buitenland was uitgezonden, en Leigh Rand, de dochter van een militaire familie. Val en Leigh, toegewezen aan dezelfde kazerne, botsen onmiddellijk, waarbij Leigh bazig handelt tegenover de onderdanige Val. Het brengt de nodige complicaties teweeg.
