Plot

Sociologie is het stokpaardje van Randolph Duke. Hij is er heilig van overtuigd dat het milieu waarin iemand leeft en opgroeit bepalend is voor het lot van de mens. Zijn broer Mortimer denkt er helemaal anders over. Ze besluiten uit te maken wie het bij het rechte eind heeft. De inzet van hun weddenschap bedraagt maar 1$ dollar. Ze scheppen hun eigen onderzoeksterrein. De rijke Louis Winthorpe, de laatste overlevende van een schatrijke familie met een zorgeloos bestaan, willen ze het leven geven van de arme bedelaar Billy Ray Valentine en omgekeerd. Met de hulp van de schurk Clarence Beeks is het kinderspel om hun plannen uit te voeren. In een handomdraai krijgen hun twee proefkonijnen een totaal nieuw leven.
