Jimmy Grimble is een verlegen schooljongen uit Manchester. Op school wordt hij voortdurend gepest door de andere kinderen, en thuis moet hij de nieuwe vriend van zijn moeder onder ogen zien. Door voetbal en enkele speciale schoenen weet hij echter het vertrouwen te winnen om te slagen en leidt hij zijn schoolvoetbalteam naar de finale van de plaatselijke schoolbeker.
