Het verhaal vertelt haar leven vanaf haar tienerjaren tot aan haar dood in 1986, toen ze aan AIDS overleed, als een van de eerste vrouwen in de Verenigde Staten. Haar hele turbulente leven, de glamour, de drugs en haar relaties, komt voorbij.
