Als een moderne versie van A Midsummer Night's Dream brengt deze film een ode aan de liefde. Professor Harry Stevenson (Morgan Freeman) waakt als het ware over zijn kennissenkring. Vanaf een afstandje ziet hij de onderlinge relaties veranderen. Van vriendschap tot verliefdheid en soms van verliefdheid tot verdriet. Al deze relaties samen en de verbanden ertussen vormen een eigentijdse romantische fabel.
