Op slechts tienjarige leeftijd ontsnapt Leo uit een pleeggezin, vastbesloten om haar eigen weg te vinden. Onderweg komt ze Lou tegen, een norse eenling met een talent voor problemen. Wat begint als Lou's aarzelende poging om 'het juiste te doen' en haar terug te brengen, verandert al snel in iets heel anders: zonder het te beseffen heeft Leo hem gerekruteerd als haar onwetende partner op een vlucht naar een viswedstrijd. Wat volgt is een onwaarschijnlijke roadtrip tussen een meisje dat niet wil praten en een man die niet wil luisteren. Samen beginnen ze aan een onvoorspelbaar en hartverwarmend avontuur dat hun leven voorgoed zal veranderen.
