De depressieve alleenstaande moeder Adele en haar zoon Henry bieden een gewonde, angstaanjagende man een lift aan. Als de politie de stad doorzoekt om de ontsnapte gevangene te vinden komen de moeder en zoon geleidelijk achter het ware verhaal van de man. Hun kansen worden steeds kleiner.
