Verhaal over de periode voor de vorming van de Joodse staat. Een groep Joodse vluchtelingen uit verschillende landen wordt gevolgd. Overlevenden uit de ghetto's bijvoorbeeld en hun drang om een eigen staat te verwezenlijken. Ook is er veel aandacht voor de onderlinge strijd tussen kolonisten en Palestijnen.
