Jean Valjean komt net vrij uit de gevangenis na een jarenlange celstraf voor een kleine misdaad. Met een nieuwe identiteit als gerespecteerde industrieel poogt hij verlossing te vinden. Zijn pad kruist dat van de terminaal zieke arbeidster Fantine die hem doet beloven zich over haar dochter Cosette te bekommeren, die door een familie mishandeld wordt. Ze komt onder zijn hoede terecht, maar Valjean wordt intussen nauwlettend in het oog gehouden door de commissaris Javert.
Nee, helaas is Les Misérables nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
