2020. Energiegigant Halo is betrokken bij een grootschalig project om olie te zoeken onder het ijs in het poolgebied. Milieuprofessor Thom Archer waarschuwt echter voor het smelten van het ijs wat catastrofale gevolgen zou kunnen hebben. Hij reist daarop naar de ijskap, waar de energiemaatschappij inmiddels is begonnen met boren. Hij spoedt zich naar huis om zijn familie in veiligheid te brengen.
