Guy Hamilton is een journalist die naar Indonesië moet voor zijn eerste taak. Daar wordt hij al snel een van de beste journalisten, o.a. door de hulp van zijn nieuwe vriend Billy Kwan. In Indonesië leert hij ook een nieuwe liefde kennen, Jill Bryant. Maar zij reist binnen de week terug naar England. Nu staat Guy voor een dillema, Jill of carrière in Indonesië.
