De ongelukkige rij-instructeur Gunny Rafferty (Alan Arkin) wordt ontvoerd door twee vrouwen. Ze dwingen hem van New Orleans naar Californië te rijden. De oudste van de twee vrouwen wil daar als zangeres een grote carriere opbouwen.
