Aurora en Emma zijn moeder en dochter die een gecompliceerde maar warme relatie onderhouden. De film volgt hen verschillende jaren van hun leven. Van het huwelijk van Emma met een man die een bloedhekel aan zijn schoonmoeder heeft tot de romance die Aurora begint met haar buurman, de ex-astronaut Garrett Breedlove.
