Pae presteert ondermaats op zijn nieuwe middelbare school. Een kortefilmwedstrijd is zijn enige kans om naar de universiteit te gaan en een baan in zijn vaders meelfabriek te ontlopen. Pae denkt dat de recente dood van zijn klasgenoot Joe voldoende emotionele aanknopingspunten biedt en begint met zijn medeleerlingen aan een kortefilmproject, waarin hype plaatsmaakt voor hoop. Maar wanneer een goede vriend van Joe na ziekte terugkeert op school, vallen de mooie plannen van de groep in duigen.
