Wanneer een buitenaards ruimteschip op mysterieuze wijze op aarde landt is deze eer weggelegd voor de tuin van de bejaarde Milton. Samen met enkele buurtbewoners uit zijn dorpje in Pennsylvania poogt Milton de onverwachtse gast te helpen om zijn weg naar huis terug te vinden. Intussen groeit een innige vriendschap tussen de dorpelingen.
