Overlevenden van een dodelijke buitenaardse invasie van monsterlijke wezens leiden een primitief bestaan op grote hoogte in de post-apocalyptische Rocky Mountains. Alleen hier zijn ze veilig, omdat de monsters om mysterieuze redenen niet hoger komen dan 2400 meter. Wanneer een vader ontdekt dat de medicijnen van zijn zoon opraken, wordt hij gedwongen de veiligheid van de bergen te verlaten in een zoektocht naar een nieuwe voorraad, voordat zijn zoon overlijdt. Samen met twee moedige vrouwen begint hij aan een missie in de levensgevaarlijke laaglanden.
