Aan de vooravond van de Tweede Wereldoorlog komen twee van de grootste geesten van de twintigste eeuw, C.S. Lewis en Sigmund Freud, samen voor hun eigen persoonlijke strijd over het bestaan van God. De film verweeft de levens van Freud en Lewis, verleden, heden en door middel van fantasie, en barst uit de grenzen van Freuds studie op een dynamische reis.
