Na de moord op haar vader wordt Rosina (Driver) gedwongen voor haar familie te zorgen. Ze doet zich voor als een christelijke gouvernante, wat haar onder een valse naam een baantje in het Schotse Isle of Skye oplevert. Haar taak is het verzorgen, opvoeden en opleiden van het verwende 9-jarige krengetje Clementina.
