Vreemde incidenten doen zich voor op het kleine eiland Northport. Toeristen en dieren verdwijnen. Bettie, de dochter van de burgemeester, keert terug naar het platteland. Ze begint het eiland te verkennen en ontdekt een rotsholte met enorme insecteneieren. Al snel vallen agressieve kakkerlakken huizen binnen. Het probleem komt voort uit een gebied dat wordt ingenomen door een onderzoekslaboratorium dat zijn activiteiten lijkt te hebben gestaakt. De burgemeester van het eiland vindt de voormalige werknemer en leert dat genetische experimenten hebben geleid tot een nieuw ras van onverwoestbare kakkerlakken...
