Het echtpaar Joyce en David besluit een einde te maken aan hun huwelijk. In flashbacks wordt het verhaal van hun relatie verteld en hoe het zover is gekomen. David was een succesvolle jonge advocaat die zich opwerkte tot directeur bij een groot bedrijf, terwijl Joyce zich ontwikkelde tot een manipulatieve vrouw die alleen aan geld en macht denkt.
