De weergave van Los Angeles in het jaar 2019 is beklemmend profetisch: klimaatcatastrofe, toenemend publiek toezicht, machtige monopolistische bedrijven, hoogontwikkelde kunstmatige intelligentie; een fantastische visie op de toekomstige wereld die een beangstigende realiteit is geworden.
