Biografie over het leven van de Engelse schrijfster Emily Brontë. Geboren in 1818 in het stadje Thornton is zij de middelste van de drie zussen Brontë, na Charlotte en voor Anne. Hun oudere twee zussen overlijden al op jonge leeftijd in 1825. Als kind verhuizen de zussen met hun broer Branwell en hun ouders naar Haworth, waar hun vader Patrick een positie als dominee bekleedt. Hier ontstaat ook het literaire talent van de zussen. Emily begint poëzie te schrijven en zal later bekend worden als schrijfster van 'Wuthering Heights', een klassieker van de Engelse literatuur. We volgen de reis naar het vrouw-zijn van een rebel en een buitenbeentje, één van 's-werelds beroemdste, mysterieuze en provocerende schrijfsters die op dertigjarige leeftijd te jong zal overlijden aan tuberculose.
