Jean Harlow arriveert als tiener in Los Angeles, door haar moeder en stiefvader de showbusiness in geduwd. De goedhartige agent Arthur Landau wordt Jean's mentor, terwijl een sluwe Howard Hughes-achtige mogul verliefd wordt op de mooie jonge actrice. Harlow zelf valt voor producer Paul Bern voordat de tragedie toeslaat.
