Anna krijgt van de dokter te horen dat ze aan kanker lijdt en terminaal ziek is. Ze keert terug naar Oregon om opnieuw contact te maken met haar broer die van haar vervreemd is. Tegelijkertijd maakt ze de hartverscheurende keuze om haar leven te beëindigen door het recht op waardig sterven te gebruiken.
