Napels. De dertigjarige Carmela scharrelt met uiteenlopende kleine klusjes een inkomen bij elkaar. Haar situatie wordt ingewikkelder als een deal om via een advocaat illegale migranten aan een visum te helpen volledig mislukt en ze samen met haar moeder en haar elfjarige dochter Maria uit huis wordt gezet.
