Het leven van een militaire vrouw kan ondankbaar zijn. Gescheiden van geliefden terwijl ze leven met de angst van een noodlottige klop op de deur. Maar Kate, de vrouw van de perfecte officier, draagt het met gratie en stoïcisme. Ze vindt vrijheid in zang en overtuigt een groep vrouwen om het Militair Vrouwenkoor te vormen. Aanvankelijk sceptisch en beschaamd wordt nieuwkomer Lisa, een rebelse rocker, snel getransformeerd door de vriendschap, humor en moed van het koor.
