Anxo keert terug naar zijn thuisdorp op het platteland van Galicië. Daar wordt hij begroet door de overwinnaars en de verslagenen, die in hem het gevaar zien terug te vallen in hun tot zwijgen gebrachte herinneringen. De dorpsbewoners zijn bezorgd. Velen hebben immers in de oorlog een donkere periode meegemaakt en de waarde van hun individuele keuzes in twijfel getrokken.
