De film focust zich op een familie Libanese immigranten op het Braziliaanse platteland ergens rond de vorige eeuwwisseling. Hun isolatie en strikte, religieuze vader drijft een aantal familieleden tot wanhoop. Met name André en deze besluit dan ook te vluchten. Maar is het strakke regime wel de enige reden?
