Bunshiro Maki is een jonge samurai aan de bodem van de hiërarchische ladder. Zijn leven verslechtert als zijn vader gedwongen wordt zelfmoord te plegen en zijn jeugdliefde Fuku weggezonden wordt. Als hij later hoort dat ze in problemen is, gaat hij haar redden.
